This needs to be addressed as it can make it VERY hard to sell the car later and it will also give you problems with MOT and insurance.

I know for a fact the dealer diagnostic computers and software CAN access the sub-systems and modify the mileage data as well as other data so they CAN do this.

Peugeot dealer or not, they are a Nissan appointed dealer, they cant have one set or rules for Main dealers and another set of rules for Appointed dealers.

This dealer needs a taking apart.

This is why i refuse to tarnish my Reputation by working for a dealer.

I'm glad you finially got it sorted and a little cheaper but you should not have had to go through all this hassle to get it done.

Lets hope you dont have anymore problems and can have many years happy motoring.

Again, sorry for my delay reply

All the best

So thanks for that Nissan.

They did ask our dealer to try a few other tests to confirm it was the combimeter and they are still insisting that is the problem.

As a last resort I rang another Nissan dealer, further away, today and asked them to quote me to fit a new combimeter - they said £458.26 all in AND you get free use of a courtesy car while they fix it!

Bit different from £616.

I was also told that it would only take them around 45 minutes to fit. The part itself costs £352 + VAT.

I rang the dealer that has my car, cough, Glyn Hopkins, cough and asked them why they were charging so much more and they didn't know! The only think they could come up with was if the 2nd dealer didn't charge so much labour. They informed me that they personally charge £94.95+VAT an hour (I'm in the wrong job)

Anyway, all that aside, we will still have to pay them the £114 diagnostic fee meaning that taking it to the new people would save £43.74. I know its not a massive amount but to be honest I am sick of GH and am reluctant to pay them another penny. This could have all been sorted a week ago if they had returned Nissan UKs phone calls and not messed about so much.

It is interesting to bear in mind that they were not going to be charging the diagnostic fee if we went ahead with the repair meaning that they were £157.74 more in the first place. Guess someone has to pay for their fancy showroom

Thanks again for all your help and listening to my moans, I'll let you know what happens.

Nissan UK have given me an address to write to and complain, I don't suppose it will do any good but it might make me feel better.

Know anyone that wants to buy a 2008 Nissan Note with a brand new combimeter? Only done 15,000 miles......
It's all a 50/50 thing with computers in cars. (I hate it, I like my classic cars)...

I do hope it all works out for you and you start getting better service. My advice would be to get hold of a manager/supervisor at the customer service and really stick it to them, don't be afraid to give them a bit of attitude either, sometimes they need to hear that your annoyed. (i've done a few times)

I've done a lot of digging on this issue and just cant seem to find anything on it, so i'm hoping it is just something in the combi-meter unit that gave up and shorted out.

Anyway, I've done enough babbling..

I do hope this gets better for you.

Look forward to the outcome of all this.

Heres hoping you have a great start to the New year.

Sounds a bit fishing in the dark to me (or just plain fishy )

I found a number for Nissan UK helpdesk online and rung them yesterday, the girl on the switchboard said it sounded a ridiculous amount and has referred the problem back to her offices. They were supposed to contact me today but didn't - sorry Nissan but we are fast going off you!

The car has 15,000 miles on the clock, it's not exactly worn out, is it? My Husband read somewhere about Nissan footing half the bill if the car was under 5 years old but our local dealer says that is a loyalty thing and because we didn't have a service this year we wouldn't be covered. Sorry but we couldn't afford it at the time and as the mileage is so low it didn't seem 100% vital to be done every year - what's the current thinking anyway? Anyone?

Meant to say, Ratchett, the reason the garage people wouldn't speak to me regarding callbacks etc wasn't anything to do with me not being the owner - they didn't know either way at the time - it was purely to do with them being too rude to ring me back.

This is our first Nissan - has to be said, it looks like its going to be our last which is a shame because its a lovely car.

Thanks again for all your help and interest, I'll let you know what happens.
