Hi guys,
I currently own a nissan micra 1.0 1999 profile (i know what a beast!? not! lol). I always assumed that they had good fuel consumption but im only gettin 35mpg. I drive 10 miles a day, my car isnt loaded up and i stick at 60mph. Is there anything you would recommend so i can get more miles for my money? or is this generally what i should expect? Seeing as petrol prices are becoming even more rediculous any help or advice is greatly received!!! Thank you!! Jx |

Its about right for a 1.0 as you have to rev it to get it going. A 1.1/1.2 may give better mpg |

My 1.2 is doing approx 42mpg to work and back 12 miles each
way, any decent run and its over 50mpg. Mums got a 2001 1.0 and we worked hers out the other week and its roughly the same as mine. So if you are only doing short 5 miles trips 35 mpg is probably not to far out. Might be worth a decent service incl plugs and air filter. Lynall Edited by lynall |

Trip computers are not (that) accurate.. Try to fill it up, drive it a specific route and then re-fill it! Then you can compare it! |

still doesnt look to be getting any better :( which is really infuriating as petrol keeps increasing and my fuel gauge keeps decreasing!
i guess ill check the tyres, and see if i can get it looked at. It had a full service and mot in august so im not sure why the fuel consumption is so crap, i dont think i could drive any more carefully!!! Does the weather make a difference? sorry clutching at straws as i have not a clue about cars, all i know is this isnt right! any more suggestions guys? |

Yes cold weather will have an effect probably as much as
5% to 10% Some peoples full service is not the same as others, ie they may have just done oil and filter and maybe an air filter but probably not spark plugs. Fuel filter wont make any difference to fuel economy and if it starts and idles fine the injectors are probably okay. I wouldnt try and drive it carefully as you are probably lugging the engine at low revs which is wasting fuel. As hard as it is ignore it and just drive it for a couple of weeks and check again.
