I have a 2007 Xtrail 2.2 Colombia diesel which is reasonably economical at speeds of up to 60mph - but fuel seems to disappear at speeds of 70-80 mph. I'm getting around 450 miles to my tank and should be getting at least 550 or so. I notice that there is a whitish smoke that comes out of the exhaust when I accelerate quickly. I service the car regularly and am a careful driver. Any help or reasons for this?

Evening,
A few questions,
Is it losing any water?
Whats the oil consumption if any?
Is it losing brake fluid with no visiable signs of loss?
Are there any engine lights on?
How many miles are on it?
When was the diesel filter last changed?
Is it 2WD or 4WD? (2 wheel drive or 4 wheel drive)
Let me know the answers to these and we will take it from there as it could be a number of things. Edited by Ratchet - 07 November 2012 at 21:22 |

Thanks for replying - most apprecitated
There is no loss of water or oil or brake fluid, no engine lights on 78000 on the clock had service in last 2 months which did help consumtion slightly (not sure if diesel filter was changed in service - although I know air filter was changed) always in 2 wd I've been keeping a record and I'm averaging 11.65 litres per 100 km. This is about 420 miles to the tank and so it appears I'm experiencing a 20% loss of consumtion (I believe I should be getting around 520 miles to the tank) I also see that when I accelerate from traffic lights etc and car revs up to around 2000rpm there is whitish smoke coming from the exhaust. Your advice is much appreciated Rob |
