serena power problems

   wonder if anyone can help me out wih regards to my 1993 serena 2litre slx

at chrismas it lost power so nursed it home 
cleaned distibuter cap and rotor this cured it

all ok till now except for an occaisionall backfire

anyway jumped back in after lunch one day and it backfired,drove for a couple of hundred yards but it totally lacked power
so far have changed cap,rotor,leads and coil
tick over is poor and lacks any power 
could it have jumped the timing or is there another cause
any help greatfully received
