Does anyone know if you can alter the headlights on a Pathfinder (57) to dip
to the right for continental driving?
Also all agency's suggest carrying spare bulbs etc, but handbook suggests
only trained operatives should attempt to change headlamp - any advice
would be welcome as I hear the French police are very picky. I am towing a
large caravan to the south and I'm bound to attract their attention!!

Thanks

In France it is law that you carry spare bulbs... Even if you
can't change them, best to carry them. Also it is law if you get
out of your vehicle on a motorway due to breakdown you must
wear a flourescent jacket.... But it is illegal to wear one while
driving....

Most people use stick on deflectors to stop headlights becoming a problem when driving abroad temporarily. Whether they can be used on all types of headlights I don't know, maybe the manual can shed some light. I would have thought Xenons etc may be too hot for the stick on solution.

If you are moving abroad and want a permanent solution I suspecet that changing the headlights to ones for a left hand drive may be the only option. That is what my niece had to do on a Fiat when she went to live in France.

Hi Lewie...

I have a house in Italy, I travel there many times a year, I drive through france, switzerland and then into italy in 56 Pathfinder

OK, I'm not saying do as I do, but I dont bother with any headlamp conversion or stickers. There are somany french, swiss and italian cars that have their headlights so badly adjusted or drive with their full beam on its stupid.

I have been stopped by the french police twice, once for a spot check and yes once for speeding 10kph over the speed limit (90euro) :-( none of them checked the lights.

On the point of the flourescent jacket, keep it in your drivers door pocket... dont go thinking its ok in the back of the car, you MUST have this on when you get out of the car!

yes you can get stickers for xeon headlights and yes the french police are a pain... but after 8pm until about 8am... you dont see any of them ;-)
