The tick over on my 57 plate pathfinder can be very low at times making the engine very lumpy. When ticking over it rises then falls almost like it's surging it's not happening every day if you hold your foot and the accelerater pedal lightly so it ticks over around 750rmp it seems fine take my foot off it starts to surge it seems to drop to about 450-500 rpm thanks for any help

I would like to say it's the Idle air control valve (if it's petrol engine) but if it's a diesel then you could be getting ait in the system.

My advice would be to have a dealer put it on their diagnostics to pin point the exact problem.
